Avast VPN is a brainchild of Avast SRO, famous antivirus software that prevents your devices from different privacy threats like malware, viruses, etc. The parent company also offers an exclusive VPN service to internet users by the name of Avast SecureLine VPN.

The service is suitable for only those people who want to safeguard their privacy while browsing the web. Read this comprehensive Avast VPN review to know why this provider has not been included in a good VPN services list yet.

Quick Overview

  • Security and ease of use – Avast VPN does have a simple and user-friendly interface
  • Streaming – Works fine with US Netflix but does not unblock BBC iPlayer
  • Speed – Provides average connection speeds in general

Jurisdiction – Where Avast SecureLine VPN is located?

Avast SecureLine mainly operates from a user-friendly country, Czech Republic. The parent company Avast SRO abides by the local Czech laws appropriately. The company has shared a limited amount of users’ information with law enforcement agencies in the past.

Therefore, you should use Avast VPN for all the right reasons; otherwise, you may find yourself in a precarious situation.

Pricing – How much does Avast SecureLine VPN cost?

Avast SecureLine provides reasonable pricing plans to its users. Surprisingly, the service has focused on offering yearly pricing packages. If you are willing to use its annual plan, you will need to pay $59.88 yearly. It means you will have to bear a monthly cost of $4.99.

You can also get the subscription of a 2-year plan by paying $95.76 for the first two years. This way, you will need to pay $3.99 per month. Interestingly, the 3-year plan is available at the cost of $143.64, payable within 3 years. Thus, you will need to pay $3.99 per month.

In terms of the money-back guarantee, Avast VPN offers an impressive 30-day refund policy that allows you to check the pros and cons of the service thoroughly. Luckily, you can also avail a 7-day free trial feature to test Avast SecureLine before subscribing to it.

Other Prominent Features

As far as Avast VPN’s other salient features go, the provider has to improve its performance substantially. Aside from Avast Antivirus, you will not find additional security/privacy features that help you improve your online anonymity considerably.

Avast Antivirus

Avast offers free antivirus software that lets you protect your desktop devices from different threats such as viruses, malware, etc.

Customer Support

Customer support is another area where Avast needs to excel if it wants to compete with its competitors. The service should include a live chat feature as it will help solve the queries of its subscribers timely.

At present, Avast VPN offers support options, including FAQs and a detailed tutorial section that helps you obtain the answers related to general and VPN installation issues.

Security – Is Avast VPN safe?

Avast SecureLine is safe to use since it offers OpenVPN and IKEv2 protocols. Still, the provider should add more tunneling protocols in its arsenal like L2TP/IPsec, SSTP, and WireGuard.

Fortunately, the OpenVPN protocol applies 256-bit military-grade encryption automatically to secure your online communications.

Logging Policy

Avast SecureLine has a clear-cut privacy policy for its potential and existing users both. As per the privacy policy, the provider does not record its users’ online browsing tasks. That said, the service does store the users’ data in the form of connection logs such as connection timestamps, bandwidth amount, and originating IP address of users.

But, there is nothing suspicious to worry about as the company deletes all the data it stores after 30 days

Additional Security Features

Avast SecureLine offers a limited number of security features such as an internet kill switch and a secure browser. We were expecting to see some other security features like obfuscation, double VPN, but it was not the case. The existing features of Avast SecureLine are described below:

Internet Kill Switch

An Internet kill switch feature protects your online whereabouts in case your VPN connection suddenly stops working. It hides your web browsing activities from hackers’ prying eyes and other cyber goons by disconnecting your internet connection.

Avast Secure Browser

Avast provides an exclusive secure browser that lets you surf the web securely and anonymously from anywhere. If you want to enjoy a secure browsing experience, Avast secure browser is a must for you.

Does Avast SecureLine VPN Leak Your Information?

Avast SecureLine is safe to use since it does not reveal your actual whereabouts online, be it an IP address, DNS, and WebRTC information. Furthermore, its Windows app is free from viruses or malware, and as a result, your devices will not get infected. Here are the proofs:

IP Leak Test:

We examined its IP leak protection feature on IPleak.net and found the following outcome:

DNS Leak Test:

We also checked its DNS leak security feature on DNSLeaktest.com and obtained the following result:

WebRTC Leak Test:

The service did not reveal our WebRTC information when tested on IP8.com:

Virus Test:

The Windows setup file came clean during the virus testing process that was performed via VirusTotal as depicted below:

Avast VPN Server Locations

The service provides 50+ servers across 30+ countries globally. Compared to other VPN services that offer servers to their users in huge numbers like NordVPN, ExpressVPN, and PureVPN, Avast VPN server spread does not look good.

But, the provider has categorized its servers based on users’ needs like streaming and torrenting, which is a good thing. Likewise, you can select your desired servers by choosing the continents first.

Obfuscated Servers

Avast SecureLine must add an obfuscation tool in its prevailing list of features that helps its users bypass severe online restrictions in different oppressive countries successfully. Otherwise, the provider might face difficulties in enhancing its current customer base.

Is Avast SecureLine VPN fast?

Avast SecureLine offers reasonable connection speeds to its users. We tested its performance when connected to different server locations like the US, the UK, and New Zealand using our 15 Mbps base internet connection.

Here are the results:

Once we connected to its US server, the speed was:

After connecting to its Canadian server, the speed was:

Speed when connected to its New Zealand server:

The above results suggest that Avast VPN provided more than decent connection speed on its US – Las Vegas server as the speed dropped by almost 30%. Similarly, the speed decreased by 35% when we connected to its Canadian server.

But when we tested Avast VPN speed on its New Zealand, the speed decreased by a significant margin of 60%. Overall, the service offers above-average connection speeds.

Streaming – Does Avast VPN work with Netflix and BBC iPlayer?

Unfortunately, streaming does not bode well with Avast SecureLine. The service does not enable you to access numerous geo-restricted services. But there is a piece of good news for those who want to get US Netflix in NZ, Australia, and other countries. Avast Secureline VPN allows you to watch your favorite Netflix TV shows and movies without facing any buffering issues.

We tried to unblock “Breaking Bad” season 5, episode 3 while connected to its US – Las Vegas server, and surprisingly we watched the show hassle-free:

Sadly, the service does not help you access BBC iPlayer while residing in New Zealand or anywhere. Hence, you should consider another VPN provider that lets you unblock the famous UK-based streaming service.

How many devices does Avast SecureLine support?

In terms of compatibility, the service has not impressed us at all. You can only use Avast VPN on WindowsMacAndroid, and iOS devices.

Moreover, you cannot find an app for your Linux-based operating systems. But, it offers extensions for Chrome and Firefox web browsers.

Avast VPN for Windows

Windows users should not face any issues while using the Avast SecureLine app whatsoever. The app is simple, light-weight, and easy to use. You can connect to your preferred server location with a single click instantly.

There is a network security option given in the settings menu that helps you activate the internet kill switch feature. Besides, you can use another option available by the name of browser integration, which you can click to install Avast VPN browser extensions for Chrome and Firefox.

Avast SecureLine for Android

Like the Windows app, the Avast VPN Android app provides an attractive user interface. Interestingly, you can activate different features like auto-connect and split tunneling without any hassle.

The auto-connect feature allows you to choose when your VPN should connect or disconnect automatically, depending on your need. If we discuss the split tunneling feature, it helps you differentiate between your non-VPN and VPN traffic.

Avast SecureLine for iOS

The iOS app of Avast VPN works flawlessly and offers an impressive online browsing experience to its users. You can use the same auto-connect and split tunneling feature to enhance your online anonymity to a new plane.

Moreover, you can use the optimal location feature to select the fastest server based on your location with a single click.

Does Avast SecureLine VPN allow torrenting?

Avast SecureLine VPN enables its users to perform torrenting tasks securely and anonymously from anywhere. However, not all the servers support the P2P activities of users. Still, the service helps you accomplish your torrenting cravings appropriately.

You can only connect to a handful of dedicated P2P servers like the Netherlands, UK, US, Germany, France, and the Czech Republic.

Does Avast SecureLine VPN offer a multi-login feature?

Avast VPN does offer 5 simultaneous connections feature like ExpressVPN that enables you to protect your 5 different devices with a single account. However, if we compare its multi-logins feature with the simultaneous connections feature of other VPNs like PureVPN and IPVanish, Avast SecureLine should improve its existing multi-login feature.

Can I use Avast VPN for gaming purposes?

You can use Avast SecureLine to play your favorite geo-blocked games online. That said, a catch lies in the form of high ping that may hinder your online gaming experience to some degree when connected to this Czech Republic service.

Aside from high ping, the service is not ideal in terms of server spread, so you had better consider other VPNs like ExpressVPN, PureVPN, and NordVPN to fulfill your gaming cravings accordingly.

Can I use Avast SecureLine VPN while working from home?

You may opt for Avast VPN to secure your office and home devices while working remotely. But, the service does not offer a huge server network like NordVPN and PureVPN. Furthermore, the service also falls short in terms of additional security benefits like TOR support, ad-blocker, etc.

Therefore, you should try out PureVPN or NordVPN to secure your digital footprints while working from home as these services provide a wide range of security and privacy advantages.

Pros and Cons

  • Offers 50+ servers worldwide, including New Zealand
  • Compatible with Windows, Mac, Android, iOS, and Smart TVs
  • Supports torrenting activities of its users
  • Works with US Netflix and BBC iPlayer

  • Does not offer a live chat benefit
  • lack of additional privacy/security features

Is Avast VPN any good?

Avast SecureLine is a decent VPN service that supports torrenting and offers above-par connection speeds. Although, it does not have a live chat feature and a huge server network in its armory. Still, the service can grab the attention of new users due to its attractive free trial feature.

Can Avast hide my IP address?

Avast SecureLine is a simple and easy-to-use VPN provider suitable for masking your original IP address. In addition, it hides your online activities from ISPs and other surveillance actors like hackers and others.

Why is my Avast VPN not working?

If your Avast VPN connection is not working, you should check your internet connection. Apart from this, you can check your network configuration to be on the safe side. You can restart your device if these problems persist.

Is Avast safe?

Avast antivirus does not disappoint its users on the privacy front because it can detect and eliminate security threats to a certain extent. In addition, Avast provides the desired level of online protection to its users.

Do we recommend Avast VPN?

It depends on your needs. The new VPN users should use Avast VPN because it offers basic VPN protection. However, the service may not impress seasoned VPN users since it lacks in different areas like live chat, limited torrenting, smaller server network, and unavailability of advanced security features like TOR support, WireGuard tunneling protocols, etc.

The provider has a long way to go when it comes to competing with other famous VPNs in the market. Based on the above Avast VPN review, you can consider using other recommended VPN services like PureVPN, NordVPN, or ExpressVPN to get a complete privacy solution under one roof.
